Seq: Press photogs take pictures as Acheson formally presents to Mr. Fisher for deposit in the National Archives "this instrument of ratification" of the treaty of peace with Japan. He then declares that from this moment the treaty enters into force. John Foster Dulles and Japanese Charge D'Affairs Takeuchi watch. Seq: Takeuchi and Acheson shake hands. Takeuchi decalres that it is a great honor to witness the deposit of the ratification and the return of Japan to the assembly of nations. He presents his credentials to Acheson who welcomes him as the first representative of Japan. Seq: Acheson and Takeuchi sign the treaty. Acheson declares that the state of war is terminated and Japan is again a member of the society of nations. Takeuchi delivers a message from his prime minister which expresses gratitude for the "enlightened" pace treaty. Seq: John Foster Dulles welcomes Japan. He warns against the difficulties that lie ahead and says that all differences can be solved in an atmosphere of equality and goodwill, that this friendship shall be nurtured with care.
